Once I realized
you were there—
spoke the words
"I'm sure I'm capable
of terrible things"—
you sprang to life,
started building coffins
for my past
& for my future.
You started the howling
in the back of my brain—
from the place I refused
to accept existed.
When were you born—
when I was three
& needed protection
but no one ever came
on a white horse
or even a dingy one?
Were you there when
I butchered myself—
silently patient,
waiting for me to see
it was never myself
I hated?
I see you now—
an unnatural black deer,
eyes burning in
the color of rage
& antlers sharp enough
to pierce souls.
I've waited for you
my entire life—
waiting to love
our new dreadful face.

My Promises To You
I promise to always love you
Today and every day that follows
I am handing you my heart
May it go wherever yours goes
I promise to never leave you
I will stand forever by your side
There's nothing that can break us
When our hearts are intertwined
I promise that in our dying days
When nothing is as it was before
Not only will I still love you
I will love you even more
Literature
You say you love me
You say you love to hear me ramble, yet you always cut me off.
You say you want a future with me, yet you see no future for yourself.
You say you love to make me smile, yet you always make me cry.
Literature
The First Heat of Summer
Atoms stroke each other in the epidermis
Vitamin D on Golden rays
Salt and nectar winds
Thrown off the sullen blankets of winter
Plastic rubbing between your toes
Coarse sand and pink sunsets
The breath taken out of your lungs by the icy water
Atoms stroke each other in the epidermis
You learn to love yourself again
